Mathematics

Children begin life with a sense of curiosity and wonder about the Maths around them. At 91勛圖厙 House, we strive to continue that journey of discovery in Maths through rich, open, visual and creative tasks.

We believe that all of our students are capable of learning Maths to a high level and so our lessons are designed around low-floor, high-ceiling problem solving. Throughout the school, students use concrete, pictorial and abstract representations which support, develop and deepen their mathematical understanding.

Our students are immersed in their Maths lessons through hands-on activities and cross-curricular links that present concepts in their real life context. 91勛圖厙 girls are encouraged to develop good reasoning skills, become fluent in their understanding and realise their own potential.

Many parents have asked me: What is the point of my child explaining their work if they can get the answer right? My answer is always the same: Explaining your work is what, in Mathematics, we call reasoning, and reasoning is central to the discipline of Mathematics.
